New Delhi. The Election Commission of India has released the timetable for the biennial elections to 28 Legislative Council seats in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra and Karnataka. The roster comprises graduate and teachers’ constituencies. Polling across all 28 seats is scheduled for 23 October 2026, while the counting of ballots will occur on 27 October.
The official election notification is expected on 29 September, and aspirants may submit their nomination papers up to 6 October. Voting will be conducted between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the polling day.
These elections are triggered by the imminent expiry of the current members’ terms. In Bihar, eight seats will become vacant in November; Karnataka will see four seats vacated the same month. Maharashtra has five seats and Uttar Pradesh eleven seats whose terms end in December.
Maharashtra – Five Seats
Voters in the following constituencies will head to the polls: Aurangabad Graduates, Pune Graduates, Nagpur Graduates, Amravati Teachers and Pune Teachers.
Karnataka – Four Seats
The Karnataka contest includes South‑East Graduates, West Graduates, North‑East Teachers and Bengaluru Teachers.
Uttar Pradesh – Eleven Seats
Eleven constituencies in the state will vote, namely Lucknow Graduates, Varanasi Graduates, Agra Graduates, Meerut Graduates, Allahabad‑Jhansi Graduates, Lucknow Teachers, Varanasi Teachers, Agra Teachers, Meerut Teachers, Bareilly‑Moradabad Teachers and Gorakhpur‑Faizabad Teachers.
Bihar – Eight Seats
Bihar’s ballot will cover Patna Graduates, Darbhanga Graduates, Tirhut Graduates, Kosi Graduates, Patna Teachers, Darbhanga Teachers, Tirhut Teachers and Saran Teachers.
With the schedule now public, the Model Code of Conduct has been activated for all affected constituencies.
