Kullu/Nitthar. A tragic road mishap in Nitthar sub‑tehsil of Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, has left the community reeling. Around 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, an Alto sedan skidded off the Dwarch road near Seri and tumbled into a canyon roughly 500 metres deep. Both occupants were killed instantly.
Eyewitnesses say the vehicle was traveling toward Durah when, suddenly, it veered off the narrow stretch and plunged into the abyss. The news of the accident spread quickly, prompting nearby residents to rush to the scene and assist the official rescue teams.
Recovering the bodies proved arduous because of the gorge’s depth and steep, uneven terrain. Officers from the Nitthar police outpost, together with local volunteers, worked tirelessly from early afternoon until about 3 p.m. on Friday. Their coordinated effort succeeded in hoisting both remains back to the road, after which they were taken to Civil Hospital in Nirmand for post‑mortem examinations.
The deceased have been identified as Hari Singh, a resident of Shah village in Lot Gram Panchayat, and Shyam Lal, who lived in Dwarch, Durah Gram Panchayat. The Alto was completely destroyed in the impact.
DSP Anni Rajiv Mehta confirmed the fatalities and stated that investigators are still probing the exact cause of the crash.
