Jamui. The principal accused in the Jamui incident, where two under‑age students were allegedly harassed and assaulted, suffered a gunshot wound to his leg during a police operation on Tuesday. Nandan Yadav was hit during the exchange of fire, taken into police custody and subsequently admitted to Jamui Sadar Hospital for medical care.
The controversy erupted after a video captured on September 19 showing the two minors being intercepted by a group of men went viral on social media, prompting public outrage and a swift police response. Authorities quickly identified several participants, arresting three of them and setting up a Special Investigation Team to probe the matter.
During the latest sweep, law‑enforcement teams conducted raids near Kunder on the Jamui‑Lakhisarai border to locate the remaining suspects. According to police sources, the accused attempted to flee, leading to an armed confrontation in which Nandan Yadav sustained the leg injury.
Another alleged participant, Hareram Yadav, was also reported injured in the same encounter, though details about his condition remain under investigation.
Jamui District Magistrate Naveen Kumar visited the hospital after the incident, receiving updates from officials and monitoring the ongoing operations aimed at apprehending the rest of the alleged perpetrators.
Police Investigation Persists
The case gained national attention when the harrowing video surfaced online. Investigators have been scrutinising the footage to pinpoint every individual involved and to prevent further dissemination of material that could expose the minor victims.
The National Commission for Women has taken suo motu cognisance of the episode and is urging prompt action against those responsible.
Police officials assure that the probe remains active, with teams continuing raids to capture the remaining accused and to reconstruct the full chain of events.
