Patna: Hundreds of exam hopefuls flooded the streets on Tuesday, demanding a clean‑slate SI recruitment test and greater openness in Bihar’s hiring procedures. Starting from Gandhi Maidan and marching toward Raj Bhavan, the demonstrators carried a 13‑point charter that includes scrapping the current Sub‑Inspector (SI) exam, launching an independent probe into the BPSC 70th exam, and addressing concerns surrounding the BSSC test.
The procession reached JP Golambar where police and CRPF units erected barricades. Some protestors scaled the barriers, prompting a brief clash with law‑enforcement. Later, the crowd attempted to move along Exhibition Road toward Dak Bungalow Crossing, only to be halted again.
Allegations Targeting the SI Recruitment Test
The participants claim the SI exam for 1,799 vacancies was marred by procedural lapses. They highlighted that the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) has opened an investigation and urged the authorities to nullify the existing paper and organise a fresh, transparent examination.
In addition, the aspirants demanded a neutral investigation into the 70th BPSC examination, stating that repeated assurances have yet to translate into tangible outcomes.
Romit’s Family Joins the Demonstration
The tragedy of Romit, a candidate who lost his life while preparing for the SI exam, galvanized his relatives to stand with the protesters. Romit’s mother and brother appealed to the state government for accountability, urging stricter safeguards against any malpractice in competitive exams.
In a heartfelt plea, Romit’s mother expressed that she does not want any other family in Bihar to endure a similar loss. Romit, described by his kin as a diligent scholar, had also cleared the NET exam and harboured aspirations of serving as a police sub‑inspector.
Call for Financial Relief and Job Security
The demonstrators also pressed for a compensation package of ₹1 crore for Romit’s family, along with a guaranteed government posting for one of his relatives. They argue that Romit’s untimely death exposes systemic flaws that must be urgently rectified.
The protesters warned that the agitation will intensify unless their 13‑point demand list is addressed promptly and decisively.
