Dehradun. On Tuesday, Graphic Era University became the launchpad for the Uttarakhand Innovation and Solutions Hackathon‑2026, a competition designed to craft tech‑driven answers to the region’s geographic and social hurdles. The ceremony was led by Pradeep Batra, Minister for Information Technology, Science & Technology, and Biotechnology, with roughly 500 participants—including students, scholars, teachers, technical specialists and budding innovators—joining the effort.
The three‑month marathon seeks to marry youthful ingenuity with the state’s real‑world problems. Participants will channel their technical expertise into sectors such as disaster response, traffic and crowd control, health‑service accessibility, environmental stewardship, wildlife preservation, tourism promotion and transparent governance.
Key solution streams will leverage artificial intelligence, data analytics, GIS and drone technology to re‑imagine public‑service delivery. Expected focus areas include AI‑powered government knowledge bases, robust data‑governance frameworks, AI‑enabled GIS mapping, environmental impact analytics, AI‑assisted preparation of DPRs and RFPs, and drone‑based aerial surveillance.
Minister Pradeep Batra emphasized that Uttarakhand’s youth and academic institutions hold the creative fire needed to confront the state’s unique obstacles. He urged innovators to apply cutting‑edge technology to real‑life problems faced by citizens.
The hackathon will progress through distinct phases: problem scoping and idea generation, prototype creation, mentorship from domain experts, and final evaluation. Winning concepts will earn pathways to pilot testing, incubation support and industry partnerships.
Specific attention will be given to forecasting traffic loads during seasonal pilgrimages, monitoring ecological stress, pinpointing disaster‑prone zones and bolstering emergency response. Solutions aimed at easing government‑service access in remote mountainous areas will also be explored.
Organisers stress that the competition prioritises citizen‑centric, responsible innovation. The event is orchestrated by the Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) in partnership with Axolotl Emprise LLP and a network of institutional and ecosystem collaborators. Its overarching goal is to nurture home‑grown technological answers for Uttarakhand by fostering collaboration among educational bodies, government agencies, the tech community and young creators.
