Agra: After a protracted hunt lasting nearly eleven months, Uttar Pradesh police have taken a woman into custody in connection with a violent incident that shocked the Barhan locality of Agra.
According to the official report, the alleged assault occurred on the night of 20 October 2025, shortly after Diwali festivities. The victim, employed as a chemical assistant engineer at a cement plant in Haldwani, had traveled home for the holiday celebrations.
Attack Inside a Bedroom
Family members claim the man was resting outside the house after the Diwali puja when his sister‑in‑law summoned him to a bedroom around 2 a.m. Police say she then brandished a blade, inflicting serious wounds.
His anguished cries woke nearby relatives, who rushed to his aid. Responding officers escorted the victim to SN Medical College, and because of the gravity of his injuries, he was subsequently transferred to AIIMS Delhi for advanced care.
Suspect Evaded Authorities
In the aftermath, the accused’s husband reportedly escorted her to her parents’ home in Etah. She vanished from the village thereafter, eluding police attempts to locate her.
Persistent investigative work finally pinpointed her whereabouts, leading officers to apprehend her at a relative’s dwelling.
Attempt‑to‑Murder Charge Filed
DCP West Zone Aditya Singh disclosed that the medical assessment confirmed the victim’s injuries were severe and potentially life‑threatening. On that basis, investigators have upgraded the case to include an attempt‑to‑murder charge.
The probe into the motives and exact sequence of events remains ongoing.
