Dehradun. In response to a spate of collisions on the Mohabbewala stretch of the Delhi‑Dehradun Highway, the district administration and police have intensified their road‑safety programme. Following the accident reported on 20 September, the District Magistrate and the Senior Superintendent of Police inspected the hotspot on 21 September.
During the field visit, officials evaluated on‑site conditions and identified a range of factors that could be driving the recurring mishaps. They instructed the relevant agencies to carry out a thorough technical audit and to implement corrective actions without delay.
Technical audit of the accident zone mandated
The DM and SSP directed the concerned departments to launch a detailed, data‑driven investigation covering road design, identified black spots, speeding trends and traffic‑rule violations. Rather than isolating a single cause, the study will examine how these elements interact.
Findings will feed into a comprehensive action plan aimed at mitigating risk on the highway.
Road‑engineering review and black‑spot mapping
Inspectors asked engineers to scrutinise the pavement geometry, drainage, signage placement and any structural deficiencies that may be contributing to accidents. A systematic mapping of black spots will be undertaken, and any required upgrades will be incorporated into the forthcoming plan.
Speeding and traffic‑law breaches under the microscope
Speed‑related incidents and other violations will be a focal point of the assessment. Teams will monitor traffic flow, identify high‑risk driver behaviours and recommend enforcement or engineering solutions to curb excess speed.
Installation of large, high‑visibility warning signs
To give motorists advance notice of the dangerous stretch, the administration has ordered the erection of oversized warning boards. These signs will convey real‑time information about road conditions and urge drivers to reduce speed.
Rumble strips to be deployed
Strategically placed rumble strips will be installed to produce tactile feedback, prompting drivers to slow down as they approach the identified risk zones.
Rapid rollout of the action plan
The DM and SSP emphasized that the devised measures must move from paper to pavement swiftly. All agencies have been instructed to coordinate closely and prioritise on‑ground implementation.

Representatives from the district administration, NHAI, the Regional Transport Office and the police participated in the inspection, sharing insights on traffic patterns, road conditions and safety challenges.
