New Delhi – Police have disclosed that a 17‑year‑old girl was allegedly gang‑raped in the Astha Kunj vicinity close to the Kalkaji Temple. Three suspects were taken into custody, and one of them – 34‑year‑old Asif from Tughlakabad – was shot during a police operation and later admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre.
How the incident unfolded
The victim had visited Kalkaji Temple with a younger male friend. After completing their prayers, the pair entered Astha Kunj Park through Gate 7. According to investigators, three men approached them, identified themselves as police officers and began threatening the duo.
The assailants allegedly dragged the girl away from her friend into a secluded spot. Witnesses say Asif brandished a weapon and forced the teenager into a sexual assault, while the other two men participated in the crime. After the act, the trio fled the scene, leaving the victim and her companion terrified.
Police response and medical care
Following a tip‑off, officers from the Amar Colony Police Station rushed to Astha Kunj. The girl was immediately transferred to AIIMS for a forensic medical examination, and crime‑scene investigators collected evidence from the location.
Encounter with Asif
During the ongoing probe, authorities located Asif near the DM Office Road in Amar Colony. When police attempted to detain him, he allegedly opened fire, discharging three rounds. One bullet struck the bullet‑proof vest of Head Constable Rajesh, prompting the officer to return fire in self‑defence. A shot hit Asif’s leg, and he was subsequently taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment.
The remaining two accused have also been apprehended.
Legal proceedings
An FIR has been lodged and a comprehensive investigation is under way. Officials estimate the victim’s age to be between 16 and 17 years and confirm that a complete medical examination has been carried out. Further interrogations of the accused are planned to reconstruct the full sequence of events.
